The “Ugly Malay” Becoming the Norm
The “Ugly Malay” Becoming the Norm
In summoning Klang Municipal Councilor Zakaria Mat Deros to the palace over the issue of the illegal building of his private mansion, the Sultan of Selangor did the right thing but to the wrong person. The Sultan should have summoned the state’s chief executive, Chief Minister Khir Toyo, instead.
The sultan should demand from Toyo what and when he knew of the affair, whether he believed it was an aberrant incident or part of a more extensive pattern, and what he intended to do about it.
Rest assured that such flagrant flaunting of the law reflects long established behaviors that has been tolerated if not encouraged by the authorities. It also mirrors the Third World mentality of being above the law that is so prevalent among our leaders.
Being only the symbolic head of state, there is not much more that the sultan can do except merely express his displeasure. Were he to go beyond that, he would risk setting a dangerous precedent and raising significant constitutional issues, quite part from sidetracking the matter.
There is one act that is well within and sole prerogative of the sultan. He could strip Zakaria of his datukship, assuming of course that the sultan awarded the honor in the first place. As Malays are still very much a feudal bunch, that would carry significant shame. That such a slimy character was so honored to begin with says much about the current state of Malaysian, in particular Malay, society. That however merits a separate discussion!
Curiously “Uncurious” Khir Toyo
That such a huge mansion could have been built to near completion right in the center of a highly visible part of town is indicative of the sorry state of Malaysian institutions, in this particular case, the Klang Town Council.
There are hosts of other associated questions. That he managed to secure a prime real estate from the council for way below market price should interest the chief minister and the Anti Corruption Agency. It would also be very revealing to trace who authorized the non-competitive sale of that valuable public property.
Of even greater interest is how this previously poor, ill-educated villager could acquire so much wealth so quickly so as to be able to afford the mansion. I am certain that if some enterprising journalists were to demand to see the cancelled checks from Zakaria or copies of the bills from the contractors and vendors for the work done, there would be none. This again reflects the pervasive corruption.
The remarkable aspect to the whole shenanigan is the curiously “uncurious” Khir Toyo. As the state’s chief executive, I would have expected him to be demanding answers from the Council officials. Alas we now have the sultan having to take that highly unusual initiative.
This dentist-turned politician of humble beginnings has absorbed only too well the Sultan Syndrome, enjoying the trappings of his office but is otherwise clueless about being an effective executive.
The sultan should strip Khir Toyo of his datukship for his incompetence. That would be a powerful symbolic gesture. The sultan would effectively be challenging the prime minister to get rid of this joker. Khir Toyo is obviously fit only to fill in dental cavities, not the chief executive suite.
Lack of Outrage
Equally shocking is the lack of public outrage, especially in the Malay community, in particular, its establishment. Malay commentators and intellectuals showed no interest, much less expressed their abhorrence. This Zakaria mess (and many more yet to be revealed) is far more destructive and corrosive to the fabric of our society than the current wildly publicized tiff between Abdullah and Mahathir.
I can appreciate the reticence of non-Malays to this Zakaria scandal. For one, there is always the fear of being branded as anti-Malay, a particularly damaging accusation. For another, they could be just as guilty in tolerating as well as participating and thus encouraging such corrupt practices. One wonders how many of the contractors working on that mansion also have simultaneous government contracts and at what inflated prices.
For Malays however, the damage is considerable. We are sending precisely the wrong message to our people. That is, in order to succeed or afford a mansion and other trappings of the “good life,” we do not have to study diligently or work hard but merely ingratiate ourselves to the powerful in order to hog our own little spot at the public trough.
The message we send to non-Malays is equally destructive. That is, we Malays are a race of rogues. We tolerate such nonsense because we harbor our own secret ambition to be like them. This more than anything is what makes me mad and angry with these scoundrels.
By Aristotle’s Nichomechean ethics, it is not enough to be angry. That is the easy part. We have to be angry at the right people, at the right time, for the right purpose, and express that anger in the right way. Slimy characters like Zakaria and his superior Khir Toyo make it easy. We cannot be angry enough at their types. We must totally abhor them. They bring dishonor to our race and nation.
Let me assure non-Malays that the Zakaria Mat Deroses and Khir Toyos are not representative of my race, at least not yet. These “ugly Malays,” to borrow Syed Hussein’s phrase, are fast becoming and will be the norm if we do nothing, by in effect tolerating them. We do have our share of the hard working, the honest, and the frugal. Yes, we are fast shrinking, that we sadly agree.
It is in the interest of all, Malays and non-Malays alike, not to tolerate such sinister and shady characters. Unchecked, they would soon spread to all Malaysians.
The Sultan of Selangor has conveyed his displeasure. He has no wish to be the Sultan of the “Ugly Malays.” It is up to us to pick up on that signal, amplify and transmit it widely. Such slimes are a blemish on and have no place in our society. They are not to be tolerated. We do not have to wait till the elections to demonstrate our collective repugnance.

Dr Bakri,
While I share your outraged, I believed the situation is already indicative of the deep rot that you fear.
Zakaria is but a small time ‘civil offender’ compared to his peers, in every BN leadership positions, in every nook and corner of Malaysia. The whole machinery is currupt to the core. That’s the reason why nothing is done to ‘close-one-eye’ up till now and nothing yet on the ‘faked AP Senator’. That’s also why Zakaria received a tiny slap on the wrist after weeks of uproar by the rakyat (that’s only when the Malays themselves became unhappy), mind you.
So, compared to ABB’s “my son’s contract is smaller than TDM’s sons’”, and our beloved Sarawak CM’s family conglomerate, it’s no wonder and no surprise that the Selangor MB is now pleading for the Rakyat to see Zakaria in the right perspective, i.e., in the BN’s scheme of things, Zakaria has shown reasonable self restraints and self discipline to have just amassed a little mansion and underpaid a piece of govn’t land.
You see, the BN’s leadership do not want this to unravel bigger and bigger cans of worms. Zakaria is a ‘saint’ compared to those who obtained monstrous contracts, large timber concessions, etc.
So, what’s the answer to this pandemic? In a democratic country there is only one thing you can do - Cast your vote to the opposition in the next election, even it’s a dog or monkey standing against a BN candidate. You see, even a dog is better because it’s incurruptable.
And if we are not capable of voting against a BN candidate, then we deserved these ‘uglies’ to represent us. If you want to know how rediculous these people can get, just visit Sarawak – people are forever in love with our Pehin Sri, the epitome of what an ‘ugly’ guy is. And he is not even a Malay.

I agree that the “Ugly Malays” are not representative of all Malays but unfortunately for Malaysians the “Ugly Malays” are the one running this country. You jut have to line them up from the PM. DPM, ministers, MBs and down the line. Not a single on is clean. We have a very hard task ahead of us to clean this up.
I have been reading your blog on changing the education system. Do not waste your time as it will only be a dream and never be realised without a clean up of the “Ugly Malays” in the government system. Cleaning up the government of these “Ugly Malays” is the first priority, without this nothing will change. Witout this we can only dream of change. Have a clean government and everything will fall into place.
On your comment “Lack of outrage”. It is not that the public does not feel outrage but more of hopelessness.

While I can understand Dr. Bakri emotional attachment to this issue, his failure to discuss this more analytically is a shame.
Instead of saying the government has to do this and that to someone, an intellectual like Dr. Bakri should ask why is the there is this trend? The biggest dissapointment to me is his failure to note that Dr. M calling the kettle black as pointed by Dr. Noor and Zakaria is essentially the same problem - respect for the truth and rule of law.
The decades of NEP and political hegemony has basically destroyed our respect for law and truth particulary procedural law and institutional conduct. That is the core of the issue. The ends-justify-the-means culture institutionalized by Dr. M is what is at issue here and worst avoided and implicitly accepted by our current PM given the conduct of his SIL and children.

The message we send to non-Malays is equally destructive. That is, we Malays are a race of rogues.
How true and that’s how the non-Malays look upon the Malays. Can you blame them for that? If only you know how your people are despised by the non-Malays behind close doors. How would you explain when Mohamad Taib ( former Selangor MB and millionaire) and Rahim Thamby Chik can still win votes and secure positions in UMNO despite their “wrong doings”.
However, there are exceptions but they are too few to be counted. But I have high regards for people like you, Din Merican Farish Noor, Zainah Anwar, and a dozen others. Intellectuals like you can change them but your voice will not reach the gullible kampong folks - the real kingmakers.

It was reported in some local newspapers that there was a peaceful gathering yesterday of no less than 700 turn up to protest against Zakaria’s illegal mansion and his power abuse at 10am. A group of gangster of no less than 10 people turned up at the scene to disturb the gathering.
How come Zakaria is so daring to the extent of having his gangsters to disturb others. He does not even bother for other to know he is a gangster chief !!!
Dr. Bakri, I totally agree with you that the Chief Minister Khir Toyo should be called up by Sultan. How can Toyo allows a gangster chief to be a councilor.
This is not only ugly, it is such a disgrace to the country. How many gangters chiefs are in our government ???

Let me tell you something about this Zakaria Family, I know his son well. They are well known as ’samseng’ to people in Klang, his son married to daughter of former UMNO Pemuda leader(combination of UGLY power), he spend most of his time playing football and making money thru all the projects under Majlis Perbandaran Klang. Arrogant is an understatement in describing this family, coz they really act like they own Klang. Why does the people support him? Ok the answer is simple, money.
His son has been showering their UMNO football team with money, same goes to Zakaria-showering the UMNO’s hardcores in Klang with project after project, come the UMNO party election these bunch of stupid Malays who elected Zakaria. And the ‘non risk taker’ voters in Klang will vote for BN during general election i.e choosing Zakaria in a way. The effect of that action is nothing but more corruption.
DR BAKRI MUSA
U’ve got to accept the fact that none of the ‘well educated beautiful Malays’ dare to take the risk. Most will be shouting from the last row during any protest. Talking about mainstream political activities - ‘tak guna, bukan boleh buat ape pun’. Imagine 60% ‘well educated beautiful Malays’ saying that, the ugly Malays will be declared winner before any contest.
SAME GOES TO YOU DBM, come back and lead the line. We are not UGLY MALAYS, we’re just Malays who have so much to loose and so many to feed. Kamunting is not an option. So please, stop blaming the innocent and concentrate on a plan, a detail guideline!!!

/// Rest assured that such flagrant flaunting of the law reflects long established behaviors that has been tolerated if not encouraged by the authorities. ///
Bakri, flagrant flaunting of the law is good. If more people flaunt the law, the law will be more widely and publicly known. This can only deter those who flout the law.
Surely, you mean “flagrant flaunting of the total disregard of the law”, or more simply, “fragrant flouting of the law.”
This is not splitting hairs - a slight change in spelling results in the diametric opposite of what you intend to convey.
October 29th, 2006 at 10:29 pm
There is no satisfactory or meaningful conclusion to the Zakarias in our municipalities unless local government elections come back.
The BN still control over 2/3 of the Parliament right? Dang!

Today, I decided to read what the Malay dailies would have written in their on line editions.
Sadly, and as you rightly pointed out, the interest in this debacle is nowhere compared to what is in the English dailies.
I would have thought that this issue would have united our people regardless of faith, race in galvanising momentum to stem this tide of corruption and societal erosion.
This therefore, COULD, mean that about 40 % of the population view this one way and 60% either see no issue or view it differently. When it is the 60% who have the 100% say react this way, it is no surprise that many of the 40% look to send their children for a better shot at what life can offer. We are in grave danger of becoming another Burma, Philippines,Sri Lanka and most of Africa.
What a shame - when we could have been as good as or better advanced than Singapore ( our closest cousins demographically).
As we look for hope in the next generation of leaders, there is but a handful at the most. If they are swallowed up by the Zakarias that abound, then my decision to want to pack off my children overseas will be painfully vindicated. My first will leave next year - aged 18.
Shalom Malaysia.

Rest assured, if we fail to learn from history, we bound to repeat the same mistakes (I respected TDM on his history lesson, remember Si Kitul & Brutus quotes).
Rest assured that there’s a ’silent’ Malay majority who are not the Ugly Malays. We are the educated and ultranationalist. We are willing to work hard and ready to sacrifice for the country, race and religion. What is needed is a leader who is wise and true to his heart.
We don’t need clowns.

Dear MBM,
Zakaria’s uncouncillary attitude is bigger that what was mentioned.Besides the house there is a restaurant owned by his family adjacent to the house which were built on TNB cable and unlicensed .
After much outcry the premises was sealed for violating the Kelang municipality bylaws. The house(Istana) was issued 12 summons prior to this with little effect until now.Somehow the council had gained the courage the last few days.
A similar restaurant extension within the rivalary distance were demolished with little warning .Such were the selective nature of law between the commoner and Corleone’s family.
Much despised little Napoleons that AAB used to warn as the very leaders that destroy the gooddeeds of BN ,so claimed by him , is so difficult to identify even by AAB.
AAB is his (Zakaria)good friend, apparently AAB visited the complex prior to this and even appointed him to be his mutawif(guide) during his umrah. His close association to AAB suddenly became a useful license for him to do whatever he felt right…the rakyat felt for it line ,hook and sinker.Every move he made Khir Toyo dare not questioned.
Is is an exception to the rule?
Yes ,if the question was,is it possible for a former railcrossing guard to attain such wealth within one term of ADUNship?
No, if is he the only UMNO member that can attain wealth within such a short time.
These similar little Napoleons were the ones who swindled 500 million ringgit worth of faulty computer labs that were demolished due to substandard nature of work but build personal mansions and Istana to last seven generations….that would unfold if we care to look deeper…but it is just a wishful thinking.
October 30th, 2006 at 12:23 am
A former KTM railway gate keeper now a multi-millionaire and a retired army corporal now a senator and an AP clone specialist. The list has no end.
This is the ingredient of the NEP’s rags to riches stories that Umno tries hard to disassociate. Their untod wealth is not by way of hard work but plenty of “ampu bodeking” like what Zakaria did while on Umrah with the PM recently.
This confirms and reaffirms the cliche that “it’s not what you know that matters but whom you know.”
The one clear message the Zakaria episode conveys to Malays and non-Malays alike is not to work hard but to suck up to the Umno leaders, the higher up the hierachy ladder they are the better.
So, it is worth the effort to smile, shake hands and wave ABB off on his foreign trips at the RMAF base in Sg Besi. Will the military police at the RMAF base let me in when ABB returns from his present overseas trip? No harm trying. Pak Din wanna join me?

I always remember the saying, “power corrupts, ultimate power corrupts ultimately.” I think this particularly true in this case. Like the rest of the commentors here, Malaysia politics is full of corruption. I don’t think any public can trust the “anti-corruption” agencies. While i have not stayed long in malaysia, but day by day reading the news it’s just filled with corruption and injustice.
Sure the world talks about bush and his war, but i think as malaysians, we cannot critise other countries before we clean our own backyard.. in this case.. it’s a huge mess.
It goes all over from NEP (never ending policy) to injustice in the govt, to corruption… everywhere.. corruption can be found. From politics to public services (bribing police to get away from a ticket and such)
i’m no big fan of either ABB or DrM. but i do see one thing.. what is happening to DrM now, will happen to ABB when he leaves his post if he voices out anything against the govt. Maybe the best “Good’ that DrM has brought to malaysia is voicing out his critism against the govt now, coz no one in malaysia dare to do it or have the power to make such a huge commotion.
To quote DrM from his interview.. “Dr M: In most countries, the main party, like the LDP or the Labour Party that you see in England, and even the American party, within the party, they are allowed to criticise the leadership.
But here, everybody must say yes, I support.
Even if yesterday they say this bridge must be built, this is our side.
Tomorrow the PM says we won’t build this bridge because Singapore might be upset, immediately the comments from people with pictures, their faces in the Straits Times with comments “We must not build this bridge, It is wrong.” You see the change is fantastic. ”
Issue is no longer about who holds the power, but who can govern malaysia without corruption.

Yr idol Tun Mahathir was the one who chose Khir Toyo(l) to be the MB.
After all Mahathir gave instant PR to the JI terrorist Abu Bakar Bashir and another terrorist Hambali - plus a 5 Million Ringgit contract .
So?

Dear All,
There are Ugly Malays, Bodek Malays, Tidak Apa Malays, Tipu Malays, Pajak Malays, Kutip Sewa Malays. We also have Tembak/Temberang Malays; one of them tried to seek poetic inspiration from Iman Al Ghazali and other Islamic saints.
The Chief of Tembak/Temberang tribe is the saintly and so-called “Mr. Clean” and “Mr. Nice Guy”Abdullah Ahmad Badawi. The propaganda machine of the tribe led by a certain Hindu God and Mullah(Kalimullah) is trying to defend a Prime Minister, who is the epitome of ongoing misuses and abuses of power in his own party and the Government. Thanks to Khairy Jamaluddin, we now have Mat Rempits and KJ-stormtroopers cum bag carriers.
There are also very hardworking and struggling Malays, especially in the rural areas who have been kept in a state of ignorance of UMNO’s abuses of power. They have been exploited by Islamist-Badawist Malays and then told by Ulamaks al Islam Hadhari to be “sabar” since the reward for them is in the HereAfter. Only time will tell how long our rural brothers will remain in a “sabar” state.
Don’t even think of the Asli Malays. They are a forgotten group in our Cemerlang-Gemilang-Terbilang Land (no more BolehLand). I have run out of words to describe our kind.
In addition, we have bodek Barisan Nationalists in MIC, Gerakan and MCA. They all add up to one huge plutocracy of pirates and parasites. It is sad that HRH Sultan of Selangor had to intervene in the case of gangster “Dato” Zakaria Mat Deros (may be it is better to use the word “deras”, since it more aptly describes how son of Deros accummulated so much money). He is in relative terms a small potato.
Bigger rapacious politicians like Rafidah Aziz, Khir Toyo, EPU Supremo Effendi Norwawi (The rm60 million Divorce Settlement Man) and Musa Aman have escaped the attention of our toothless ACA and the Inland Revenue. UMNO stalwarts cum former power abusers like Mat Taib Tyson, Rahim Thamby Chik, Tok Mat Rahmat, and the incorrigible and compulsive gamber Osu Sukam have now become party elder statesmen.
Goodbye to clean and transparent Government. Hopefully, it will be goodbye Badawi. Only then we can begin to say good riddance to bad Leadership!!

Dear All,
There are Ugly Malays, Bodek Malays, Tidak Apa Malays, Tipu Malays, Pajak Malays, Kutip Sewa Malays.

In its simplest form the problem is with the political patronage system that spawn “Ugly Malays” such as these. These people are all political appointees given such appointments in return for their political support. Once in there, the temptation to exploit and abuse the system is too good to miss.
It is not just the Malays who are “ugly”. The other races are involved too. It is just that the other races are usually not in a position of government and hence less visible. They make use of the Malays. These traits of greed to take advantage for self gain is not limited to Malaysians. Jeffrey Skilling and Bernie Ebbers comes to mind. But the difference here is while the Skillings and Ebbers try to beat the system in their greed quest, in our case, the culprits steal from the very system they are sworn to protect. That is why it seems more abhorrent. And the reason they are able to steal and cheat from the system they are supposed to protect is because their bosses created the right environment and conditions for them to exploit.
You are right that the Sultan should have punished Toyo too. In fact, HRH should have chastised the BN Govt. as well. This matter was raised by DAP’s Teng Chang Khim way back in February 2006 with reports made to both MPK and the ACA then. Nothing was done. So what was the message to Zakaria from this inaction? That his bosses in BN is prepared to close both eyes to his shennanigans in return for his support. That emboldens him further. He then tries to turn the MPK council into a family affair. Maybe this finally spooked Toyo and the others that this chap is going too far. But having created the Frankenstein, they are unable to stop him. So they decided to play along with the ruckus created and when HRH decided to step in, they must have breathe a huge sigh of relief.

Bakri Musa,
Yr idol Tun Mahathir was the one who chose Khir Toyo(l) to be the MB.
Mind you, Toyo(l) is a first time immigrant!!!!
After all Mahathir gave instant PR to the JI terrorist Abu Bakar Bashir and another terrorist Hambali - plus a 5 Million Ringgit contract .
While spouses of Malaysians, armed with degrees, had to wait for 20+ years before they were deemed fit to have either PR or citizenship.
Not to mention the odd 600,000 Malaysian born Chinese and Indians who were deprived of a blue IC because their births were either unregistered or due to other circumstances. What a travesty of justice!
Your “highly intelligent” and “decisive” Dr. M was nothing but a bigot, a racist, a tyrant. For 22 years he corrupted all those who were willing to lick his arse and suck up to him. It was his policy to bring in muslims to islamise malaysia. He can’t wait to have M’sia be a FAILED State, and that’s what it looks like from here, the way the country is sliding down to the cesspool.
So?
October 30th, 2006 at 1:49 am
germal,
You are not making sense. Mahathir have fucked up the country, sure. Does that give license to Badawi to fuck up the country as well?
So?

Something is wong with the blog. The good doctor is trying hard to weed off unwarranted comments and in doing so has unwittingly erased some genuine ones. No wonder Freeman-Kedah submits the same comment under several names. You can guess Freeman’s impression of Badawi his henchmen including his two trusted pallbearers at NST. Take it easy my friend. There is more to life than making a saint out of goons like Zack Deros and Khir Toyol. While you bash your head on the wall they laugh all the way to Bank Islam. Not worth the trouble lah.
October 30th, 2006 at 3:20 am
Zach Mat Deras is competing with Samy Vellu’s appointed gangsters in Klang. This man is a downright ganster, those who know him respect him as the man with money, nothing more. Sultan did the right thing to summon him, he does not have to go through Kir toyol, why must he?
October 30th, 2006 at 3:40 am
I hope our talented writer-director Yasmin could turn Z Deros affair into a satirical film. It should be fun to watch during next Hari Raya holidays.
Maybe all of us here could help with the synopsis.
Let turn this story into an art form and make money too! I am sure our opposition parties would love to see the successful production of it.
October 30th, 2006 at 5:14 am
Now Khir Toyo has come away from this incident smelling like roses. For one, he has gotten away scot free when he should have been hauled up to accept accountability for Zakaria’s actions. Instead, he has now issued a useless “ultimatum” for Zakaria to resign by 8th November, failing which the State government will force Zakaria out. But Zakaria’s term has already expired and he has yet to be appointed to a new term! Khir Toyo is very good at such useless moves to make it look like he’s punishing the errant politicians when he’s in fact pandering to their continuance in defying the law. Khir Toyo is a load of bull and a shame to Malaysia.
October 30th, 2006 at 6:22 am
I sincerely wish to believe that “Datuk Z & Khir Toyo is not representative of your race” but my personal experiences suggests otherwise.
The threshold was passed in the Mahatir era & the pandora’s box has been opened.
The greed for power & wealth have become all consuming. It has become a “norm” of sorts, especially so for the Umnoputras & the many sections of the non-Malay populace who feeds off these fat cats. Greed is Good, so it seems.
I will exercise my vote the next time round & it will not for BN.
October 30th, 2006 at 5:24 pm
The ugly Malay is different from the “Ugly American” potrayed by William J. Lederer in the ’60s in that the Malay is physically really ugly.
October 30th, 2006 at 6:05 pm
Let’s not be so harsh on Zakaria. Perhaps he just literally interpreted Najibs call for “towering malays” by constructing a tower on his abode so that he may shine there as a example to the lesser Malays.
October 30th, 2006 at 6:23 pm
“I can appreciate the reticence of non-Malays to this Zakaria scandal. For one, there is always the fear of being branded as anti-Malay, a particularly damaging accusation.”
Dr. Bakri, you are perfectly right in your concern above. In today local newspapers it was reported that Klang Umno backs chief, blames Opposition ( Party ).Thier next move will be very rightly to blame non-Malays.
All the ‘beautiful’ Malays must come out quickly to condemn the Klang Umno before these ugly Malays take their next move to blame non-Malays.
October 30th, 2006 at 6:46 pm
Chinaman
Don’t start it. You are treading on thin ice. The same can be said about ChinaMan ugly yellow skin with slit eyes. Not pleasant isn’t it?
Don’t know what mischief you are up to but you are one dangerous person.
October 30th, 2006 at 6:57 pm
Shrek , you are right Chinaman is indeed a dangerous person. Don’t fall into his trap by countering him. Let us just ignore him like we ignore dog barking .
October 30th, 2006 at 7:24 pm
I would just like to note that at the Zakaria house demo, while his small group of supporter threaten to start a May 13 incident (ironically betraying the UMNO party line of who caused May 13 in the first place), the Pandamaran residents actually came out to defend DAP and Keadilan demonstrators.
Ironically (although it should NOT be surprising), its DAP especially Lim Guan Eng who are the ones pointing this out.

More bad news on ‘Ugly Malay’- From Utusan today:
UMNO Bahagian Klang buat rayuan kekalkan Zakaria ahli majlis
Oleh Fauziah Arof dan Suhana Abdul Mutalib
KLANG 30 Okt.
Kerajaan negeri memberi tempoh sehingga 8 November supaya Zakaria berbuat demikian.

Friends in Cyberspace,
Sad state of affairs in our country. Regretably, UMNO grassroots are not aware of what is really happening in Kuala Lumpur due to RTM and TV3 propaganda.
In Kuala Lumpur, the Badawi spinners like the Hindu Goddess-Mullah and his cohorts at the NST and those chickos on the 4th Floor, PM’s Office who have been put there by the so-called wunderkind Khairy Jamaluddin are hard at work to provide us with disinformation and misinformation. Much ado over nothing. The truth is that Badawi nothing over the last 3 years.
We must be grateful to bloggers like Bakri Musa, Raja Petra, Ibnu Hakeem and others for providing us with insightful analysis and alternative views on what is happening in our BolehLand. Or it cemerland-gemilang-terbilang Tanah Melayu.
Tun Dr. Mahathir has today become a convenient target to divert our attention from acute problems of corruption, poor economic prospects, racial polarisation, religious obscurantism, and a very pro-Bush foreign policy.
Our dear leader, Imam of Islam Hadhari crap, is not fit to run our country. That is the whole truth, Nothing but the Truth,so Allah Help us. He must step down more before he does more harm to our country. Otherwise his UMNO will face negative consequences in the coming elections.
UMNO must act or it will face the prospects of a possible political demise.
October 30th, 2006 at 8:40 pm
“UMNO Bahagian Klang buat rayuan kekalkan Zakaria ahli majlis”
Absolutely shameless. There was a time, we would ostracize such a character. Nobody in Umno Klang is curious on how Zakaria accumulate his wealth?
“Menurut Shohimi, kesalahan tidak membuat pelan pengubahsuaian rumah itu merupakan perkara yang tidak perlu diperbesarkan.”
Yes, just sweep it under the carpet.

Most of our malay leaders are really unethical and corrupt. It’s so sad to read their stories everyday in the newspaper. It’s REALLY UGLY!!
October 31st, 2006 at 1:57 am
Ugly Malay is one thing but those bunch of UMNO Klang really takes the cake. Someone better point out to them that they best keep their mouth shut before they make bigger fools of themselves. I am sure HRH Tuanku has done his homework before hauling Datuk Zakaria up and whatever Toyo’s fault is, he is not so stupid or blind that he cannot see that Datuk Zakaria is really wrong to issue him the ultimatum. So is UMNO Klang saying that Tuanku and Toyo are all wrong and unable to think for themselves and can so easily swayed by the Opposition? UMNO Klang, you can insult Toyo if you want but please do not insult HRH by disagreeing with his conclusions that Zakaria is wrong.
It is plainly obvious the whole bunch are so blinded by Z’s money that they cannot even “see” the truth. That the man was punished for breaking the law by not paying his assessments. That the man was punished because he betrayed the trust of the people by cheating on the very laws he was supposed to protect. That the man was punished because he thought he could get away with anything when he built a restaurant illegally on land belonging to the state. And last but not least, he was punished because he was trying to establish a dynasty in the local council. Had he succeeded, only God knows what transgressions he will further embark upon. All this escaped the simpletons of UMNO Klang. It is sad.

In Malaysia UGLY has now becomes BEAUTIFUL word because everyone is doing it, so where got shame one! . It’s you scratch my back and I scratch your back, so semuanya OK lah.Afterall, with this type of publiSHITy, suddenly you becomes famous, sort of a celebrity…joining thr rank of ppl like close 1 eye, senator clone Ap, australia money courier,…lists getting longer …
October 31st, 2006 at 2:23 am
The following is the extract from Andrew Ong’s report at Blog Malaysiakini Oct.30 ;
” Parti Keadilan Rakyat Selangor vice-chief Khairul Anuar Zainudin, who was at the demonstration, claimed racial slurs were made the mob, as most of the protestors where ethnic Chinese.
“They played up racial sentiments. They were shouting ‘Cina balik!’ (Chinese get out!), ‘Kalau kamu mahu Mei 13, saya hari ini boleh bagi kau’ (If you want May 13, I can give it to you today)” said Khairul when contacted.
Two other eye-witnesses confirmed that such words were used by the group which backed Zakaria.”
Khairul Anuar Zainudin, you have my repect to expose these ugly Malays. As long as there are still Malays like you , Dr. Bakri , Raja Petra and etc around there is still hope for this country. Let all the beautiful Malays come forward to stop these ugly Malays to bring our country to destruction.
October 31st, 2006 at 6:11 am
Hi Dr
This is not a racial issue.
This is a national system issue. A reflection of the fact Malaysia is still far from the state of being a developed country.
I believe the non-Malays do know that Ugly Malays are mainly attributed to those in the UMNO (as its name suggests Ugly Malay Nationsal Organization). Maybe not the UMNO 20 over years ago, but today, it surely lives up to its abbreviation by new the defination.
UMNO had been robbing other ethnic groups in this country, then distributes bread-crum size of the swag to the naive kampung Malays. Then lure them into believing that those are the fruits of victory UMNO had faught for the Malays, and that the Malays need UNMO’s protection. In return, the kampung Malays happily give UMNO the votes so they could stay in position to steal much larger wealth from the country.
Shoimi Shafie (UMNO Klang) speaking out for Zakaria is just a another typical example. “Abang Zak built the kampung house for the poor….” Ya right! With a small kacang price of a (accountability still questionable) wooden shed, he could pave the way to a palatial mansion, sup-sup-sooi (cheap) isn’t it?
There too are ugly, unscupulous Chinese and Indians in the up and coming China and India. So, this is not an issue about any particular race. Our system is ill and our politicians are taking the opportunity to ascond from our own country.
This corrupted, lawless monkey king attitude seed was sowed by Mahathir 20 over years ago. It is now rooted deeply in every layer and level. I would not hesitate to label him as the biggest culprit who turned the country into what it is today.
We are selling commodity to support the country. How much oil can we pump our from Petronas? and how many % of the revenue get to be distributed to fellow commoners (Mahathir is NOT a commoner as he claimed, he is a big fat leech who has sucked out too much wealth from the country)?
Vanity is another demonic seed Mahathir planted in the kampung Malays’ mind. False sense of pride will do us no good. So we are sending astronauts into space, but is it our own effort? We merely bought two very expensive air tickets for a big hole in a pocket. UMNO people will call me sour grape. Am I? Ha ha!
There is no time better than the present to change the system. With our votes at hand, vanquish of the monkey kings and monkey pawns
I certainly will.
October 31st, 2006 at 7:57 am
The wave of change have comes and the harvest is ripe. So intellectual Malay and unUgly Malay should stand up and be counted and in solidarity move our beloved nation from “gostan gear” into forward gear.
October 31st, 2006 at 8:39 am
Someone is posting the same comment over and over again. He is kinda sore with the Malays and has accussed Mahathir of being the devil who had planted the demonic seed in the minds of the Melayu kampong. You are right, my friend.
All fingers point to this Kedah-born doctor who has gotten us into this shit. I can’t blame anyone else but Mahathir for all our woes. He is the epitome of the Ugly Malay (he’s a half-breed) and has unwittingly produced more.
Zack (the crying) Mat Deros, Khir (the penipu) Toyol, Najib (the pencuri) Razak, Mike (the I don’t know)Tyson, Rahim (the gila perempuan) Thamby Chilk and many more are the result of Mahathir’s obssession with NEP.
See how Zack Mat Deros cried on TV 3 last nite. What a show. This railway gatekeeper deserves an award for being so original.
Oh! Lord have mercy on us.
October 31st, 2006 at 3:26 pm
Al Jihad Al Qaedah
Go and blow up the Istana Idaman. That will be considered Jihad as Zakaria Mat Deros has deviated from Islam, brought shame to Islam, Melayu Bangsa dan Negara. You will be rewarded 72 virgins.
Just like what Bakri wrote in Melayu Baru and Melayu Barua, Zakaria has commited fraud, failed to pay property Tax for years, interfered with the law and now hiring thugs and hooligans to intimidate kampung folks. Yet his Baruahs in UMNO Klang passed a resolution supporting him and even his UMNO boss the Toyol says Zakaria has committed no crime. Toyol must have inhaled too much laughing gas or under so much novocane that he is in a world of his own.
The people of Klang and Selangor should demand that Khir Toyol resign for deleriction of duties and failure in his fudiciary duties as MB and head of government.
October 31st, 2006 at 6:19 pm
“See how Zack Mat Deros cried on TV 3 last nite. What a show. This railway gatekeeper deserves an award for being so original.”
that wasn’t original, he learnt it from his ’sifu’ the great Tun! That was how he survived 22 long years, frequently sobbed infront of tv to get sympathy.
Khir Toyol is just one double headed anaconda; don’t tell me he didn’t know that huge istana was being built before the DAP brought it up to national attention? Comeon, we aren’t fools.
November 1st, 2006 at 1:26 am
Pulling down Istana Deros would be such a waste of money. Since the episode is grinding to an end, let us be constructive in our effort to pen the final chapter. I think one nice way to end the story is to do the following:-
1. The Selangor government should somehow take the land with the Istana back and turn that into a community hall, an education centre or something else to benefit the public, particularly the folks of Kampung Idaman. After all, in the Star today, Zakaria was reported to have said that his family had also planned to create community-centred room, including having a tuition centre, a surau and an activity corner in the Istana. Notwithstanding the fact that this is the first time I am reading about the altruist intent of Zakaria, we will believe his generosity and maybe compel him to be a little more generous by giving up the whole house for a good cause rather than just a small section of it.
2. The other two councillors’ houses must be dealt with in a similar way if they were built on lands alienated by the State to them at heavily discounted prices.
As correctly said by many, it is a shame that our dear Sultan has to personally step in to intervene in the matter when rightly the MB Toyol should have done what the Sultan had found it imperative to do. Constitutionally, the state government (which includes municipal government) carries out its functions in the name of the Sultan and the Sultan therefore has every right to step in. However, that reflects very badly on the leadership of Toyol and hence a sequel to the Istana Deros story must be commenced. I say we should now focus on the MB and kick off the first chapter and let it gather momentum and lay bare all his wrongdoings and shortcomings and would then see and assess if he is fit to be the MB. That way, we can test his mettle and substance and if they are lacking, a better person should be installed to take the helm of the Selangor government.
It is reported in the Star today that Zakaria said that the PM advised him to be patient and find a way to deal with the problem just before the PM left for China. I like the PM for the reason that he has taken the country to a new level of transparency and democracy. However, if the report was true, then I say the PM is one soft, sentimental guy. Not that it is wrong to be gentle sometimes but the Zakaria’s situation does warrant a strong rebuke by the PM. The PM has not said much on the Zakaria debacle. Maybe he thinks it is a State matter. But it involves impression of UMNO being the Ugly Malays National Organisation.
Since transparency and fighting corruption are so high on the PM’s agenda, let us make use of the present time to expose and weed out all the undesirable or corrupted leaders of the government whether at state or federal level, irrespective of race, religion or affiliation.
It is sad to hear reports that the Zakaria boys were making racial slurs and remarks and threatening a repeat of May 13 as if his problem was racially connected. The racial card has served many political leaders in the past and I think they should now stop insulting us Malaysians by assuming that we are always that naive and gullible and at the same time stop insulting themselves by portraying that they have to resort always to stoking the fire of racial or religious sensitivities for their political survival.
For the sake of Malaysia and the future of all Malaysians, let us be true to ourselves and address problems by correctly identifying and attacking them as they should be. If it is an integrity problem, then attack it as an integrity problem. Zakaria’s problem is an integrity problem. Therefore, let us treat it that way and stop dressing it with an unwarranted racial element.
For example, the Bumiputra policy an affirmative action policy is to address a social and economic imbalance problem. Hence, let us see it that way and ask and investigate whether that imbalance problem has been properly addressed, attacked and overcome. All and sundry have accepted the policy as part of the Malaysian reality. Why then when we want to discuss the implementation or the result of carrying out that policy for the past so many years, we are stop from doing that by some leaders who put a sensitive racial gloss over it?
I believe that many Malays, especially the more enlightened ones like Dr Bakri yourself would like to see that the benefits of Bumiputra policy implementation have been felt where they were supposed to be targetted and not end up in the hands of just a few Ugly Malays through corrupted means. The indisputable Malaysian phenomena is that these Ugly Malays after having amassing great wealth and power mainly through a skewed, selective and an inequitable implementation of the Bumiputra policy than come around and consolidate more power by shouting and emphasing the Bumiputra and non-Bumiputra dichotomy. Is there still a divide? If so, why? Where did all the wealth allocated and created for the Bumiputras go? All these should be transparent to all, Bumiputra and non-Bumiputras alike.
Sorry to have diverted from the Zakaria issue.
November 1st, 2006 at 6:13 am
The Rule Of Law in Malaysia is Dead. Take the case of Zakaria Mat Deros. The Police won’t take action, the ACA won’t investigate his wrong doings. The AG won’t investigate and prosecute. The MPK won’t throw the books at him. The Selangor State Government thru the Land Office won’t confiscate the property even tho Property Taxes have not been paid for years. The MPK won’t demolish the Satay joint. The MB won’t discipline him. UMNO won’t discipline this idiot. Even the PM is comforing him. So where is the rule of Law. It’s time that the Rakyat take the law into their own hands to ensure justice is done.
November 1st, 2006 at 6:41 am
Hi guys,
nothing shocking on what had transpired here. My advise here is to expect more. Like they say, “it’s gonna get worst before it gets better”. Remember we are a developing country. “hardware are excellent but Software of a 3rd world”. I am sorry to have to say that. If I may indulge further, we are at the stage where Idi Amin ruled Uganda. That would place “malaysian administration capability” about 40years behind the current benchmark ( developed status). Some of you may disagree with what I have just said, but just scroll back and read all the comments from top to bottom, all you guys are “waras” giving good suggestions which reflects what “common capable” people think. But why are the MB and AAB doing the opposite ?. This blatant disregards for law , policy etc etc that are the pillars to what ones believes in and stand for are not respected and yet the issue is left dragging. Don’t be surprise that he’ll be given another chance and all these are just a mis-information. (remember we are 40yrs behind-so it is possible).
We will have to consult the “Oracle” for the “ONE”. who would bring change and upgrade the required “software” so that we can progress more efficiently with accountability in it’s truest form.
I rest my case.
November 1st, 2006 at 4:02 pm
You can raise your case - but I cannot rest my butt.
It is a simple issue of someone who broke the law. Since it involves an abuse of public trust it is very serious. I say let the law takes its course.
Selective prosecution is a serious problem affecting our legal system. If the Municipal Council, Town Council or District Council could pull down structures put up by squatters in violation of local law and regulations, why the hesitation just because it involves a municipal councilor?

It is time for this brother to blow himself up and collect his one-way ticket to Paradise - where 72 virgins eagerly await his arrival.

I see Mr. Brenden Perierra of the NST will no longer be the NST Group Editor come December 31, 2006. His contract has not been renewed. Anything brewing the NST? Let us hope the Hindu Goddess Mullah also disappears.
It is a lesson: do not sell your soul to politicians; they will use and discard you without any qualms. So, Mr. Perierra, I believe you have learned your lesson. Don’t sell yourself cheap and compromise your integrity.

Hi guys, much has been said about Zakariah Matderos but I need to add some hidden facts about this character. He was from Kg. Hilir, Kuala Sungai Baru. His father was a Bilal . His education is only up Darjah Enam. Chidhood days , known for being the ‘kepala’ for the notorious kids. Ran away from kampong and settle in Klang. Initially, a gate keeper and later work himself up becoming union leader for the port workers which virtually was the ‘kepala gangswter’ . work the

I am once a malaysian. Left out of disgust.
The commoners (malay) are gentle, softspoken and easy to get along with.
However the politicians have always managed to stir up racial sentiments in these gentle folks. Esp when they need a bogeyman.
Hence the mistrust of one another…and the uncertainty of when the May 13 card will be played again.

Malu benor saya bila di gelar `Ugly Malay’. Kalau Hang Tuah hidup pun tentu beliau marah. Fikir-fikir lah wahai rakyat Malaysia….
Tepuk Dada tanya minda……Siapa bunuh Altantuya?? Ugly and Cruel Malay??? Fikir-fikir lah.
