Imagine a nursing tutor translating an English medical book into Bahasa Malaysia notes for her trainees. Imagine the one checking her notes is not an expert. Imagine when she has to set questions in both Malay and English. Imagine when she has to edit the questions. A nursing tutor or pengajar is a real pitiful sight in Malaysia. On one hand, she looks very clever. On another hand, she is actually not clever. Many nursing tutors are half filled tins. And they seem to be proud of that. Whether they are from University of Malaya, University of Selangor, University somewhere in Australia, University somewhere in England, Institude Kesihatan Umum; all of them lack the qualities of good teaching. Many are egoistic and let their private affairs get into the way. It is not whether you have done a perfect translation, it is also making sure that they have learned the art of nursing. There is this book ” Kamus Jururawat ” and there are mistakes in it. But the publication of this book still continues on. Nursing training is a diploma qualification. Shouldn’t the trainees have that kind of intelligence ? Shouldn’t the pengajars also have that kind of intelligence ? Or somehow they carry the qualification of diploma but in real sense they are only worth a certificate. Yes. Nursing training and nursing teaching is a very sad state of affair and nobody bothers.

I think Ungku Aziz was not the first director of the DBP. It was Tuan Syed Nasir Ismail in 1956.

Perhaps.
But this underhand strategy did not succeed as the non Malays are as good as the Malays in Bahasa Malaysia.
In many schools Non Malays emerge top of the school in Bahasa.

And for the life of me, I cannot seem to find a DBP dictionary of Malay to English.

Even if I find such a dictionary, it is published by others, and not up to the number of entries listed in the Kamus Dewan. I seriously wonder if this is a ploy to try to stifle the other races’ grasp of the Malay language?
